Delaney loves photojournalism as well as investigative and engagement journalism. She’s hiked with her camera through the Peruvian Amazon rainforest; protests in Hillsborough, Raleigh and Washington, D.C.; and Krzyzewskiville before the Duke versus UNC basketball game. Strong reporting and moving imagery go hand in hand in telling compelling stories of injustice from around the world.
Her photo “Huito” came in third place in the Duke Global Health Institute Photo Contest in 2017. It hangs in Trent Hall on Duke’s campus and is featured on the back cover of this year’s DGHI Impact Report. Huito, juice from the Genipa americana fruit, is used in villages in Manú National Park as insect repellent and dyes skin blue for several weeks.
This photography documentary was created for a class at Duke called Small Town USA. It focuses on the women behind the movement for women’s rights in the small town of Hillsborough, NC after the election of President Trump.
